Zaouiat Ahansal is a very nice little village, in the province of Azilal, backed by a barrier of ochre cliffs dominating the tumultuous waters of a fringed torrent of greenery.

This region is particularly well known for the beauty of its landscapes.

The Queen’s activity at Zaouiat Ahansal is hiking, not to mention climbing. The village has three ksars.

A Ksar is a fortress built in Adobe, it is always located in a spectacular location, perched on a steep headland clinging to a rocky wall, or erected above an oasis.

Typically combining attics and dwellings, they are found on foothills close to Oasis in order to protect themselves from attacks from nomadic tribes.

A ksar is composed of cells, called Ghurfas (“Chambers” in Arabic), which are used to store foodstuffs in anticipation of several successive years of drought.

A zaouiat is a sanctuary where a very pious man is buried. It is recognized by its roof decorated with green ceramics.

In Ahansal, it is the tomb of Sidi Saïd which is preserved, a 17th century holy man.

Every year, in the summer, the inhabitants of the surrounding valleys come to celebrate, each in turn, the marabout buried in the Qoubba (mausoleum) on the green roof.
