This is an ideal trip for those who want a demanding 5 days walking, stunning mountain scenery and the added challenge of the winter environment.
The ascent of Toubkal is not technical but does require some scrambling and the use of crampons and ice axes. The amount of snow can of course vary greatly! Departures from Oct – April
DETAILS ITINERARY
DAY1 : ARRIVAL TO MARRAKECH – TRANSFERT TO IMLIL – 1H30 DRIVE.
Arrival to Marrakech and transfert immediately to Imlil .Night in Guest house and preparation for the Trek.
DAY2 : IMLIL (1740M) – TIZI MZIK (2489M) – TO AZIB TAMSOULTE – LEPINEY REFUGE 3000M (2300M)
Start of a 6 hour trek up via long, winding mule tracks to Tizi Mzik (2,664m) giving an awesome panorama of the Imlil Valley and of Jebel Toubkal (4,167m). From here you descend to Aazib n’Tamsoult (2300m) for a picnic by a stream. Thence, on up to the Tamsoult Cascade, also known as the Irhoulidene Cascade (2700m) and on to dinner and overnight in a basic refuge – Lipeney Hut (3,000m).
DAY3 : TO BOUYGUENOUSSEN 4002M- TOUBKAL REFUGE (3207M)
After breakfast, we now set out eastwards on a moderately difficult hike up winding tracks to the Tizi ntadate 3800M with our picnic taken en route, then Get to Bouyguenoussen 4002m then crumble down to the Toubkal (ex Neltner) Refuge which marks the spring snowline at (3,207m). (About 7 hours’ walk.)
DAY4 : OUANOUKRIM – RAS 4078 AND TIMIZGUIDA 4088M
We leave the Toubkal Refuge (3,207m) towards the Tizi Ouagane pass 3800m, following a well-worn route. If conditions are good it should take no more than 3 hours to reach Ouanoukrim peaks..Returning to base. (About 8 hours’ walk.)
DAY5 : NELTNER HUT TO TOUBKAL PEAK AND IMLIL – MARRAKECH
We leave the Toubkal Refuge (3,207m) before dawn, following a well-worn route to the summit. If conditions are good it should take no more than 2-3 hours to reach the summit, where we enjoy expansive views of the entire Atlas range and the Marrakech plains beyond. After having lunch at the Toubkal refuge, we continue our walk down the valley to Imlil and join our transport back to Marrakech.
